Evidence shows that parenting plays a key role in influencing child development and behaviour and that by supporting parents the risk of poor long-term outcomes for children and young people can be reduced.

To ensure that the best possible outcomes are achieved for parents in Western Australia the State Government established the Centre for Parenting Excellence to work with community sector providers and government funders and providers to improve the availability and quality of parenting services. This includes a focus on providers who offer parenting services to communities of interest including Aboriginal families, culturally and linguistically diverse families, fathers, families in rural and remote areas, families where one parent works away and grand carers raising their grandchildren.
